Make a photobook collaborative workshop @ dabf 2015

60 images + 12 participants + 8 hours = 12 collaborative photobooks

During the Dublin Art Book Fair 2015, the RTI team partnered up with Temple Bar Gallery + Studios once again to host MAKE A PHOTOBOOK Collaborative Workshop. The workshop took place in TBG+S' bright and beautiful studio space, Studio 6. With a small selection of photobooks to hand, participants were given a brief introduction to various editing and sequencing techniques and quickly set about the task ahead: to create their own hand-crafted collective photobooks.

After splitting participants into groups of three, each group began working with a collective pool of images to create new narratives and explore the various possibilities of visual storytelling. Each member of each group made opening image selections, picking one image each out of the pool to kickstart their collective narratives.

With an emphasis on editing, sequencing and building relationships between images, members of each group began to identify common threads within their image selections and from there began to tease out the narrative of their books. Further image selections were made and soon the books began to take shape. Moving from table to wall to maquette, each group had their books ready for stitching and slicing after lunch.

While there were some limitations in place, experimentation with available materials was highly encouraged and so the resulting books, while identical on the inside, each carry the stamp of their maker on the cover. See photos from the workshop and of the books below!
