This series of images are derived from a combination of aerial photographs shot on various flights across North America and images shot 'on the ground' during these trips by Conor McMahon.
The title Hohlweltlehre references an elusive mythical notion - linked in the past to occult secret societies and conspiracies - that proposed the Earth as almost entirely hollow. It further proposed the Earth’s surface to be in fact underground and the curvature of its surface therefore to be concave.
"I wish to explore the phonebook format as a means to present these images as an expression of the Hohlweltlehre notion. This because I wish to suggest Hohlweltlehre itself ultimately as a metaphor for western culture which is becoming more and more insular and inward reflecting, these times."
