Fionn McCann's 'Extraction' documents mining sites in Co. Kilkenny.
"Having returned to this location numerous times over the past four years, I’m continually struck by the drastic shifts in the landscape’s appearance. There is an unintentional reshaping of the landscape, another by-product of the industry. While the limestone is hacked from the earth to facilitate the built environment, what’s left is an accidental shifting sculpture. An unforeseen, unintentional artwork exists for a brief moment in time. The scarring of the saw, the constant trickling of water, of silt; all contribute to a real-time living artwork, its lifespan uncertain."
